CHAPTER NINE

NOX

Arousal and love broke open inside me and leaked into my pores. I had to have his mouth since it was wrong to take his body in that moment. Not yet anyway. The kiss didn’t last near long enough. But I allowed Kieran to push me back enough to pant out his breaths and caught him thinning his lips while he straightened his sexy frames as he remembered we had an audience.

“You guys are stinking up the hallway. You two just need to have sex already,” Riker said.

Kieran’s face flamed and he gripped the front of my tee.

While I locked one arm around Kieran’s waist, I used the other to reach back for my brother, but he danced out of the way with a laugh.

“Riker, leave your brother alone,” Ruth scolded.

Kieran tensed. He didn’t know who she was.

“Mom,” Riker whined.

Kieran’s head popped up and his brows were high.

His arms dropped from around me and faced Ruth as Riker skipped down the hall and hugged her. All Kieran’s questions and thoughts about the noises we made were pushed back as he stared at Ruth, no doubt wondering about Riker calling her, a woman who looked our age, Mom.

Ruth cupped the back of his head. “Sweetheart, be a good fox and go get cleaned up.”

Riker sighed, rolled his eyes, then nodded and raced off.

I glued my gaze back on Kieran. His nose scrunched up in thought. At any other time, it was adorable, but I knew that action was over the reminder of an animal when Ruth called Riker a fox.

Before Ruth arrived, I was sure my mate was on the right track by asking about goddamn Fluffy.

Would he recall it all now?

Kieran’s lips parted, but then he gasped and coughed. I patted his back gently. He shook his head.

“Her… you… Fluffy… animals,” he got out between coughs.

Shit.

He held up a hand and used his other one to smack his chest. I didn’t like him hurting himself, so I removed his and replaced it with mine to rub over his chest as well as his back still.

“How about we go into the kitchen so I can finish preparing dinner?” Rio asked.

Kieran finally drew in a deeper breath.

“We’ll meet you there,” I told them. I got a thumbs-up from Rio, a sympathetic smile from Deacon, and Ruth beamed at me before they all left.

Ignoring the tightness in my chest, I asked, “You okay?”

Please be okay.

I didn’t know what I would do if Kieran rejected me because of the tiger.

It huffed inside me. He was already sure Kieran loved him.

Hell, maybe I was on my own in winning Kieran over in accepting everything.

“I-I… I’m confused, and shouldn’t I be worried that Riker was shot, by you, but no one is taking him to get checked over?”

“You don’t need to worry about Riker. He’ll be fine soon.”

His grip on my tee tightened even more. “How?”

I didn’t know if it would be best to inform him on my own or take him into the kitchen where everyone waited.
